So I've had this laptop for about a year and It has a preinstalled wireless network card in it. Everything was preinstalled. My hard drive recently crashed and I just got a new one and installed it. Now I had to do a system recovery and now all my hardware is uninstalled. Sound card, network card, etc. I've tried installing the network card via system>hardware>device manager, but apparently It is installed...I dont get it. I connect an ethernet cord to my laptop and nothing happens even when my modem and router work fine.

I put in the Optimum Online disc and it said It could not detect a network card even thought It appeared under the "Select NIC" option...So It said restart computer and when I turn it on, it will install itself, so I restarted but it never installed, it just said the same thing. Can anyone help me? The laptop is Gateway, I have Optimum Online.

Hi,
It sounds like you are missing drivers.
Go to the device manager and see if you have any errors (yellow or red exclamation points). Post the errors to the thread.
What is the exact make and model?
Do you have the driver CD?
If not Gateway site should have the drivers you are missing:
http://support.gateway.com/support/drivers/dlcenter.asp
You will need to input your serial number

Ah ok, someone else told me the same thing, I had a hunch it was that. I have to use a flash drive to get the drivers to my laptop because it doesnt have any connection at all.
