I registered my domain. It wasn't clear until the confirmation email that I would have to pay extra to change nameserver information. This has rather ticked me off. The registrar has answered none of my emails and they have a physical address but no phone contact. So I have a domain with no way to use it, unless I pay more. My question: Since I am the owner on record for this domain, is there any way I can take control of setting the nameservers myself?

Thanks

I think you can transfer the domain to UKReg (assuming you are no charged for transferring a domain by the people who are alredy holding your domain) and then you can manually edit your nameservers from there. I'm not sure if UKReg will charge you but I don't think they do, they will take your credit card details but i'm not 100% sure if they charge.

Good luck.

Is there a way for you to log in on the registrars home page with the user name and password you entered when you registered?
If so,that should give you access to the settings.
