I'm using dial up, it cannot connect, reporting diagnose: cannot connect with DNS (domain name server)

milica, when you are dialing, what are the exact symptoms? Do you get a good connection to the ISP?

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD to open a command prompt:

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following command:

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter to copy the contents to the clipboard.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

I had same problem and my CD drawer could not open and I was wondering if the user had the same symptoms. However, in retrospect, I believe it was probably unrelated. If the CD drawer can open and the user can connect to the internet with another computer then they it gives them more options on correcting the problem by using CDs to run programs and posting reports to the forum.

Have you tried a new cable and a new port on the router or switch you're connected to? If so, have you tested that connection with a working machine?


TCP/IP stack repair options for use with Windows Vista.

Start, Programs\Accessories and right click on Command Prompt, select "Run as Administrator" to open a command prompt.

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following commands:

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog

Reset IPv4 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv4 reset reset.log

Reset IPv6 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv6 reset reset.log

Reboot the machine.



After that, please post another IPCONFIG /ALL
