After reinstalling Windows 98, I keep having trouble with Windows loading upon startup. When I can finally boot properly, I receive a message stating that either my display settings or my adapter type is incorrect. What can I do to correct this problem?

Have you installed the drivers for your video card and monitor?

Yes, I have installed them. I'm using a RIVA TNT and I have installed the latest Detonator drivers from the NVIDIA website. But, on some occassions, my computer fails to load Windows, and keeps giving me a warning that my display settings or my "adapter type" are incorrect. I know for a fact that my display settings are not incorrect because my system behaves like this no matter which display settings I choose. Therefore, I have to believe that the problem is with whatever the "adapter type" handles. What does this mean? What can I do to correct it?
