I recently installed a new HD in a laptop that i am fixing up. i put in the windows xp home edition cd and went through all the steps, i even deleted the partition that was on there and made a new one and installed xp on that. after the computer rebooted to go to the next step an error appeared saying "disk read error occurred press ctrl, alt, del to restart. i did this over and over again. i went to the recovery console and tried everything you can think of and then reinstalled xp and the same thing happened. WHAT CAN I DO?!?!?:upset:

Hi guitarfreak5892 !

Since this is a laptop you'll need the manufacturer's installation disks, retail install disks will lack the proper drivers for your hardware and the problem could be with the SATA controller drivers. What's the brand and model of the laptop ? You can order the recovery disks for a small fee on their support website.
