When I use Disk Management from the MMC, it will not show any volumes. The C drive will not come up, nor any USB or other external devices attached to it, the drive display is just blank.

Any ideas why this would be happening?

I came across a thread where they suggested checking the Windows/System32 folder for a file named dmserver.dll.

The file had been renamed to "dmserverxxx.dll", and when renamed to "dmserver.dll" it fixed the issue.

Apparently happens sometimes when new externals are connected.

Worth checking.

Ensure you are logged in as the administrator (or an account with admin privledges) as not all accounts have access. Also ensure the "logical disk manager" service is running. And last but not least, other HDD apps such as Partition Magic and DisKeeper often cause problems.

Yep to all above. I'm logged in as an administrator, the Logical Disk Manager service is running (I restarted it as well), and there is no other partitioning software installed. When I try and run Disk Management, it very quickly flashes that it is connecting to the logical disk manager service and then comes up blank.

Aarrrgh!
