I put my cd-r disk into both (D) & (E) drives but got message that drive is not accessible, device not ready. I put cd-rw disk into (d) & get same message. But cd-rw disk in (E) is recognized & 'my computer' screen shows it has capacity of 648 MB but on the cover of the 2x/4x cd-rw disk it states only 533MB.

In trying to familiarize myself with this stuff I'm getting more & more confused. Any suggestions?

I have a win 98 Pentium 111 at 700 MHz, 128MB SDRAM,8x/4x/32x cd-rw drive, 20.4 gb HD,12x DVD ROM drive.
The 2 disks came with the computer and have yet to be used.

Thanks for any help.

Hello bartbarney and Welcome To The Forums.

If there was never anything burned onto the CD-R disks they will show up as you have stated until you burn something to them.

The CD-RW will show 533 not 648 because it has been formatted so that you can can use it with drag and drop and rewrite to it.

Think of it as being like a large floppy that you can use over and over again.

A floppy is 1.44 meg. but after formating it can only hold 1.38 meg.

I hope this helps and doesn't confuse you....:D
