I would try updating the BIOS.
Disappearing CD-rom
Hello all, I seem to have a problem with my cd-rom being reconized in my MB bios! Sometimes the bios will reconize it and sometimes it wont! When the bios dosnt pick it up, windows wont pick it up and then I have to shut my computer down and wait 1 minute, then start it up again and then it picks up my cd-rom! Is this a fixable thing? Thanks for any help you can offer!

check the eide cable is secure
try another eide cable

Ok, Thanks, I will give that a try! 
i also recommend trying another ide cable just like the other post said and see if that solves your problem. make sure the connection is not loose either.
