Disabled Service causing a problem

1248 Views 11 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  <SKATER]
I recently disabled some services so they don't run on startup (quite a few of them actually and was wondering if anyone could help me fix it quickly instead of going through them 1 by 1 to find the problem. Anyways after disabling a few I thought I wouldn't need cause I primarily use my pc for gaming.

I'm unable to access ftp servers and get the following error when trying to.

First did you disable the Services via MSCONFIG or through Administrative Tools. Basically, as I understand it you are asking if someone can figure out which one (or more than one) of the disabled services would cause the error.

Might help if you could post a screen shot of your Adminstrative Tools Services, with the "Disabled" ones listed at the top of the list so they will be seen (on the chance the entire list is longer than the hiegth of the screen.

If you did it via MSCONFIG, just click "Normal Startup" in MSCONFIG and everything should be...

(ready for this ?)

Normal.

You can group all the disabled items together so that a person doesn't have to go digging around in three image files.

The list of disabled ones is still to long for a single image but if you insist i'll do it in a bit.
:sigh: Why did you disable near enough all of them when your computer needs them to run and you didn't know what you were doing?

You have to enable most of them back again and all should run fine.
Here is a list of XP Services, compare the Desfault Status and notes against yours

Obviously I don't need them ALL to run but thanks for trying.
Maybe this will help compare your list to this. This only covers Windows services not third party ones.

A very good, simple and direct suggestion.

Problem:
"I've disabled so many Services my machine won't run right."

Solution:
"Re-enable all your Services and your machine should start running again."

Response:
"If I do that, I'll have to go back and figure out which ones to turn off again."

My response to that idea:

Just think how much you'll learn from this experience.
