Hey guys I ran Dxdiag and I got this information when testing Direct3D and Direct Draw:

DDraw Test Result: Failure at step 17 (SetDisplayMode to 640x480x16): HRESULT = 0x80004001 (Not implemented)

D3D7 Test Result: Failure at step 39 (SetDisplayMode to 640x480x16): HRESULT = 0x80004001 (Not implemented)

D3D8 Test Result: Failure at step 6 (No hardware supported display modes found): HRESULT = 0x80004005 (Generic failure)

D3D9 Test Result: Failure at step 6 (No hardware supported display modes found): HRESULT = 0x80004005 (Generic failure)

I saved the entire report if you need the whole thing, but this is what I thought was important. Whats wrong that is causing this? My games might start but will close themselves before the options screen (New Game, Saved Game, etc.) and some games come up with errors like when I start World of Warcraft. With WoW I used the repair tool that came with it and found out a bunch of files were gone, probably caused by the viruses I had. Also windows files are gone, so I am in the process of finding my windows XP disc to try and repair and replace any missing files. Could the missing windows files be causing this?

Can you give us any more details about the viruses, what problems they caused and how you removed them? If your system is still infected, you will need to get it cleaned in our HiJack This forum.

Try a repair install of Windows SP2, reinstall all drivers and DirectX, then run the dxdiag tests again.

Please post back with the full dxdiag report and any error messages you get while playing games. Any blue screen error codes?

I Have The Same Problem Too!!! And Without Having Any Virus Lately. And The Worst Is I Ve Just Formatted My Hard Drive....
I'm Using An Ati Radeon 2600 Hd Pro Card But With Agp. I Canot Use Any Task That Uses Direct 3d.... Anyone For Help?

The latest release of ATI drivers has proven to be very buggy, I had the same problem. I ended up uninstalling the drivers and reinstalling version 7.11. http://ati.amd.com/support/drivers/xp/previous/radeon/radeonxip-cat711-xp.html

Hi all,

Getting same direct diag issue & when i try and start anything that uses direct x i get *Game error 105 can't initialize direct3d check version direct x 9.0c or higher* etc...

Tried everything other than a clean xp install... cant bare to do that!

Help!
