Direct connection setup help

So my friend fried his computer. We aren't sure how he did it, but it's indubitably dead. We've hooked up his harddrive in the slave position on one of my boxes, and I have a cat5 running from my active computer to that box, through a switch.

One of the computers runs Windows server 2000. The other, mine, runs Windows XP Home. I'm trying to suck his 18 gigs of music off his old harddrive without giving myself whatever virus he contracted in the first place.

So. How do I make these two boxes talk?

First, use a CAT5 crossover cable, not a straight patch cable.

Manually configure the TCP/IP properties as follows:

PC1:
IP Address 192.168.0.2
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0

PC2:
IP Address 192.168.0.3
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0

Make sure that NETBIOS over TCP/IP is enabled on the WINS tab in TCP/IP Advanced Properties.

Thanks for the help; once my dad got home we managed to get it set up through our wireless home network. He gave me a bit of a funny look when he walked in and saw me messing with heaps of cat5. :)

Problem solved. Thanks muchly.
