Hi everyone,

I am a graphic designer for a small digital printer. A customer provided me a word document the other day to edit and add their. Now all of this should be easy and if I was doing it in Indesign would have taken me about five minutes. However since it is Word I am at a loss for how to go about things. I was able to add the logo and format some of the type around it. However there is a portion of type that I cant select with the cursor or move like you would a graphic. Does any one know why this maybe? I know if this was in Indesign I would check to make sure the text wasn't locked or on a master page but as far as I know you cant do either of those things in Word. I am useing Word 2011 on a Mac running Os 10.6.8. Any ideas?

Possibly was pasted by creator if a portion was picture + text or merely text from a scanner.

You could try to Cut the piece, then Paste it onto a blank page and using Paste Options, select "Paste as text only", or words to thet effect. If what you then have is editable, re-import it to the original document selecting "Merge Formatting" - Hopefully, this will now allow you to do what you want. If the block of text has been inserted as an image you have a different problem; you may have to show the block of text to an OCR Reader and change the image to text, save it in Word and import it from there.
