I have a very strange problem that I'm not sure anyone can fix. I recently purchased a xerox 8860 phaser printer (around $3000). The was very unimpressed when I printed from home as the images were pixalated with jagged edges and a transparent photo on the poster had a white line going around. I printed from powerpoint (but also tested printing from different programs) and the images used in the presentation are very high resolution pictures, some that I bought from Istock and one that was taken at a photo studio.

Anyway, I went back to where I purchased it and they printed my exact same pp file from their computer onto their phaser and the quality was 10 times better, smooth lines, no pixalation and good colour.

So I went back home and tried some of their suggestions, different drivers and so forth and nothing worked. So I brought my computer from home and printed from in onto their printer and got the same crapy result from my pc.

Both my destop and laptop print this way at home and I don't get it. I run windows xp on both, we used a similar version of powerpoint.

What kind of software issue could cause this to happen?

Sorry for the long winded story

Since the other shop PC did a good job and yours does not there must a difference in your settings. Go into your "printers", right click on the printer and select properties. There are lots of options. You want to locate the setting for quality level and adjust it to your preference. There may be an issue with your memory capability since you described a large and graphic piece of work.
