all of the security scanners search for viruses and other little bugs that can infect your computer. Do they all search / scan for the same things? does one product scan for bugs that another one does not? or after something comes out that is a threat, they all get ahold of it and add it to their long list ?

Hi,

Whilst all the security software ultimately has the same goal, to prevent any malware infecting your computer, they achieve this in different ways.

If we are talking purely about Anti Virus software, the different security vendors (aka Kaspersky, McAfee etc), have different databases of malware, and the scans themselves search for malware in different ways. Whilst a good scanner will pick up most malware, Kaspersky's results on an infected computer, will be slightly different to ESET's.

There are also differences in other types of security software, such as Anti Spyware, Firewalls etc, that all work in different ways.
