I was playing around and trying to get some programs to stop running on the system config utility and somehow I did something and no devices (in device manager)are not loading. All I touched was the start up setting and nothing else. I went back and put everyhing to where it was I think...any ideas?

Hi joey2509 and welcome to TSF:wave:

The easy way to fix this might be to do a system restore to an earlier time.
I'm assuming that "system config utility" is the utility you get to by typing in msconfig in the start>run box. Normally there are check boxes to start/stop applications. Using those, you should be able to start or stop any application listed.

Hope this helps,

Mack, form some reason the ststem restore does not give me a time earlier than when the problem started as an option.

I also went back and click on every single box in MSCONFIG box and still nothing.

Hi joey2509,

Are you talking about the Device Manager, or the Task Manager?
Try running chkdsk /r.
See if the system restore is enabled and that you have sufficient harddives space alloted for it to have restore points. If it looks OK, then run your antimalware software.
Malware will often disable the system restore function. Run more than one malware programs. I use SuperAntiSpyware and SpyBotS&D. Others are good also.

Look in the event viewer and see if there are any relevant errors listed under either sytem or applications. Double click on the errors to get more details.

Keep us posted on the results.

Best regards,

I mean the device manager.

To recap, the only thing I did was disable some of the start up programs in the system config. When nothing was working like I couldnt get online I noticed in the device manager that nothing is there - I put it back to Normal Startup that loads all devices and sevices.

The system restore is enabled just it will only go back to the date to when it happened. I am not sure what malware is and I cnat get online to download it.
