Device will not start (Code 10) error

First post, so sorry if this is not in the correct thread.

I am trying to connect my sisters computer (XP home edition) to the internet. We have a livebox connected to one computer and we are using a Thompson Speedtouch 121 G to connect my computer to the livebox. Using the same device I am trying to connect the final computer.

I downloaded the latest driver and installed it as instructed but before the driver finishes installing i get an error message - Device failed to start (code 10), or something close to that. I have searched all over for an answer, the computer has hardly been used and was previous connected to the internet but stopped working, so i uninstalled the driver and am trying to reinstall.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi,
Welcome to TSF.
We need a little more info.
Can you give us the make and model of the computer?
Go to the device manager and post any errors.
Bill
It's a dell E520, the only error in device manager is the speedtouch 121g wireless adapter.

Is there no standard way to solve this code 10 error, there were several registry fixing programs claiming to fix them, but with names like "PC Fixer2000" i wasn't going to be testing them.
Uninstall the driver you now have. It maybe in the add/remove programs. Remove the ST121g from the computer.
Install this driver:

once installed it should prompt you to insert the ST121g.
I would not recommend any registry cleaners as the do more harm than good.
I also noticed that you have XP SP3. This may cause problems during driver installation. Although I am not completely sure in this case.
Were you able to install and use this device before you install SP3?
Bill
The computer i am currently trying to install this on is running SP2. I will try this, and thanks.
Let us know how it goes.
Thanks for clarifying the SP.
