Hi stuck on what to try next my desktop pc, Powers it's self up after shutting down, 3-4 hours later the power button surges like it's trying to turn on but struggles then turn's off then turns it self on.

I have recently bought a new power supply 600w, thinking that was the problem, but still having the same problems.

I have never seen a power supply turn itself on. That is scary from a safety standpoint. If the new PSU is doing exactly the same thing as your old PSU, I don't think it is your PSUs.

Make sure the case's front panel power button is not stuck pressed in.

Note the time this happens to see if there is a pattern. There are many things that can, for legitimate reasons, wake a computer including Windows Update, security programs, program updaters, and more.

Next time it happens, from an elevated command prompt (run as administer), enter powercfg /lastwake to see if it shows what woke your computer.

Then look in Task Scheduler to see if you can find that program and change its Triggers to not allow it to wake the computer. If you cannot find anything, you may have to go through all the entries to see if anything is scheduled at the time(s) your computer wakes. This can be a long tedious process, especially going through the Microsoft entries.

hi sorry for the delay, it's not the power supply, as when I turned the power socket on for the pc again tonight, it booted up by it's self. so either a bios setting or maybe faulty power lead is causing it to power up.

is says wake history count - 1 wake history [0] wake source count -0

will be checking task scheduler soon.

@MasterChief - he's in England and there, wall outlets have switches on them.

@Steve - this very well could be a BIOS setting. Most, if not all motherboards have the option to boot the system when power is restored from an outage. This is for computers that are at remote locations so the computers can come back up after a power outage without someone having to make a road trip to visit the site and manually press the power option.

With my Gigabyte board in this computer, the setting is under Power Management > AC Back. The default is Always Off, but I can change it Always On so it will always boot up after power returns from an outage. Or I can set it to Memory so it will return to the same state it was in when it lost power.

Check your BIOS Setup Menu for something similar - or just reset the BIOS. If you decide to reset it, immediately boot back into the BIOS to reset the date and time and make sure your boot order is the way you want (if not booting to your first disk), then Save and Exit.

It would not be a power lead.

Check all the bios settings as there could be a setting for a mouse or keyboard to start system from off and or telephone or ethernet on/off and all those suggestions should be disabled.
