Please download HijackThis - this program will help us determine if there are any spyware/malware on your computer. Create a folder at C:\HJT and move HijackThis.exe there. Run a scan and save the log file. Get HijackThis Analyzer and save it to the same folder as the hijackthis.log file. Run HijackThis Analyzer and type in y if you agree. Open up the result.txt file created. Copy the whole result.txt log and post it back here. Do not fix anything in HijackThis since they may be harmless. Make sure to include the System information at the top of the log as well.

Hi tromboman and welcome to TSF.

I am currently reviewing your log. Please note that this is under the supervision of an expert analyst, and I will be back with a fix for your problem as soon as possible.

You may wish to Subscribe to this thread (Thread Tools) so that you are notified when you receive a reply.

Please be patient with me during this time.
Thanks for your patience.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad in order to assist you when carrying out the following instructions.

Open Computer. Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options. Select the View Tab. Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders. Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files option. Click Yes to confirm. Click OK.

BroadJump- I see you have BroadJump on your system. This is the newer name for BroadJump Foundation Client (BJCFD) from BroadJump.com, now Motive. The software collects information on your Internet activity and sends it to your ISP so that your ISP can serve you advertisements related to the type of sites you visit. I reccomend contact your ISP as soon as possible and ask them how to remove it and why they installed it in the first place. Do not attempt to uninstall the program yourself.

P2P - I see you have P2P software installed on your machine. We are not here to pass judgment on file-sharing as a concept. However, we will warn you that engaging in this activity and having this kind of software installed on your machine will always make you more susceptible to re-infections. It is certainly contributing to your current situation. I’ll leave the decision to you.

Download CWShredder and click on Fix (it will automatically fix anything it finds for you). If it asks if you want to delete a certain random file, choose No and post that filename here.

Download KazaaBegone and unzip it to your desktop. Warning: This version has a bug that can cause your Internet connection to be broken when removing New.Net, WebHancer or CommonName. Before using KazaaBegone, download WinsockFix just in case you need it (if it breaks your internet connection, run it).

Download smitRem.exe and save the file to your desktop.
Double click on the file and it will extract it’s files into it's own folder on the desktop.

If you have not already installed Ad-Aware SE 1.06, follow these download and setup instructions, otherwise, check for updates:
Ad-Aware SE Setup
Don't run it yet!

Reboot your system in Safe Mode (By repeatedly tapping the F8 key until the menu appears).

Click > Start > Control Panel > Add / Remove Programs and uninstall the following programs:
InstaFinderK
RxToolbar

Open Hijack This and click on Scan. Check the following entries (make sure you do not miss any)

O2 - BHO: RXResultTracker Class - {59879FA4-4790-461c-A1CC-4EC4DE4CA483} - C:\PROGRAM FILES\RXTOOLBAR\SFCONT.DLL (file missing)

Please remember to close all other windows, including browsers then click Fix checked.

Delete the following Files indicated in RED and Folders indicated in BLUE if they still exist.

C:\Program Files\INSTAFINK
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\P2P NETWORKING
C:\Program Files\RxToolbar

Open the smitRem folder, then double click the RunThis.bat file to start the tool. Follow the prompts on screen.
Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.
The tool will create a log named smitfiles.txt in the root of your drive, eg; Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply.

Open Ad-aware and do a full scan. Remove all it finds.

Run KazaaBegone.exe. Select “Search and destroy all installed components” Then click “Go”.

Reboot your system in Normal Mode.

Please post a fresh Hijack This log and smitfiles.txt so that we can check if your system is clean.

I could not run SmitRem because my keyboard does not work in safe mode
Smitrem does not require a keyboard to run. Do you mean you could not use your keyboard (F8) to enter safemode? If so, do you have a USB keyboard? Is it at all possible to get a PS2 (the port, not the game system) keyboard?

What about the original problem, is the desktop hijack still there??

Also please run a new scan with HijackThis! and post the contents here.
After I launch SmitRem it asks me to type 1 to continue or E to exit
Since your keyboard doesn't work in Safe Mode, here's what I want you to do:

Download the file I've atached to this post - RunThisNoKB.zip

Extract/Unzip the file (RunThisNoKB.bat) contained within to the same folder where RunThis.bat is located.

When you run smitRem again, click on RunThisNoKB.bat instead of RunThis.bat
