Windows XP, I keep losing the driver if I reboot or shut down the computer. I am unable to remove the driver from properties I get an error mesg that tells me "the specified driver is currently in use" have tried to install generic printer and making it default then going back but still wont let me. How do I COMPLETELY remove the driver and start again. When rebooting, XP recognizes new hardware loads it, but it doesnt work. Not until I reload the driver from the HP site, then it works until I shutoff or reboot. Any assistance appreciated, its driving me nuts....and the kids NEED the printer!

What model printer?

You may need to run a Registry Cleaner to clean out loose ends as well?

This free Registry Cleaner has worked well for me on many machines over the years:

RegCleaner
