I am looking at a few Dell desktop PC's for a client of mine, who wants me to upgrade them from Windows XP to 7 and then to 10, and I use a KVM switch to switch from my own computer to his ones. However, today, for the first one I am doing, I had to plug in an external keyboard and mouse, as, despite USB Legacy Devices being enabled or turned on in the BIOS, my KVM keyboard and mouse aren't working! I went into the Device Manager to check for any driver updates on the USB devices and hubs, and there weren't any, and then Windows told me the USB device could not be recognised!

Ironically, I did look at the same desktop (Dimension e520) for him a few years ago, and the KVM was recognised perfectly.

Also, my Seagate External drive isn't being recognized either! Any clues?

The first problem I see with this is that any machine running Windows XP is going to have a tough time running Windows 10. Drivers will not be supported or failure could arise.

Does everything work if you plug the keyboard and mouse directly into the unit?

It does, but the external drive is still not being recognised.

I have upgraded older machines to Win 7 before, and they've worked fine.
