My friend is having difficulties playing the new MMO Star wars: the old republic. It runs perfectly fine most of the time, before crashing unexpectedly to the desktop. Strangely this only occurs on certain planets, like Tython and Ord mantell. We were able to play without problems on coruscant the entire way through. I've talked to a couple of people, and they believe its a driver issue.
So I tried to help him update his drivers, but it seems more complicated than it should be. He uses the Dell Studio 1555(computer specs: Dell Studio 15 (1555) Review) laptop with windows xp service pack 3. Upon investigation, it appears that I don't believe he had updated his drivers since his initial purchase in 2009. So we looked through the ATI website, but they don't support xp mobile graphic cards on their website anymore.
So we ended up calling their support line, and they directed us to the Dell website for driver updates. Unfortunately, dell hasn't updated their drivers for this laptop since 2009. After doing some research, it appears that using the ATI catalyst driver system seems to be the answer. I'm not that knowledgeable when it comes to this kind of tech stuff, and I want to be sure what type of driver update is compatible with this laptop.
