So my computer started freezing randomly...once when I was playing a flash game(and running stat program R) and another time watching a video. I turned it off both times with the power button. I couldn't move the mouse or do anything.

When trying to turn it on again, the fan would either keep running(nothing on screen) or the same thing with the fan and the start up beep repeating(again saw nothing on monitor). I usually have to wait a bit until I can try again to get to the windows screen...maybe the computer needs to cool down?

Next I saw a Blue screen...0x0000007F.

Vista 32
Dell Inspiron 530 desktop, about 3 years old
Only thing new is I installed a Logitech Illuminated Keyboard
(though I got the blue screen plugging my old keyboard back in)
BIOS/drivers are probably not updated

:4-dontkno

Anyways any help would be appreciated.

As dai mentioned - run memtest. You are booting from the memtest CD (and not from Windows), correct?

The bugcheck - 0x7f - do you know what the number was after the 0x0000007f? It would be the 1st number inside the parenthesis (there are 4 sets of 0x... numbers inside the parenthesis) - something like ---
0x0000007f (0x00000008, 0x...., 0x..., 0x...)

Have you cleaned the inside of the system recently with compressed air - is there a lot of dust inside?

You said you got the BSOD after plugging the old KB back in. Did you have to install any drivers from a CD or download drivers from the Internet for the new KB? If so, they would still be present in your system, even if the old KB was back in use. The new drivers need to be take out. You can try and boot with your Vista DVD or boot into the recovery partition (usually F10 during boot - if KB works) and perform a Windows System Restore.

Regards. . .

Sorry, I believe I got the BSOD on both keyboards. The keyboard did have its own software...maybe I need to go back to the new keyboard to start it up.

I dusted it a year ago, and just did again. And not sure what else the blue screen said.

Right now, the computer is not booting at all, so I cannot run the memtest.

I was looking into boot codes...I think Foxconn is my manufacturer.

But its a repeating short beep...site below says memory error.

what's next?...thanks

you remove all and then test one at a time

check the voltage range of the ram on the manufacturers site

the m/b may default to low, with 4 sticks the voltage needs to be at the upper end of it's range
