Dell (wired) keyboard quit working. Wired mouse was working. Bought Microsoft Wireless Desktop 2000 keyboard and mouse. Installed wireless keyboard/mouse but keyboard still does not work; mouse does work. Installed new MS Wireless keyboard & mouse to another computer, a Dell Inspiron E1705 laptop - wireless keyboard & mouse works fine on laptop.
Spoke with MS about problem and they suggested the problem was possibly an internal problem and to talk with Dell. They wanted to run tests for a "price", so thought I would try this forum first before handing out money. Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated.

What type of keyboard connection (ie: PS/2 or USB)? Do both (the old and the new) keyboards use the same type of connection?

The old wired keyboard uses a "round type plug with six pins". It is not a USB; Is that the PS/2?
The new wireless keyboard works with a wireless flash drive USB plug.
Just a note - I recently was removing some "suggested" programs in an effort to make computer operate more efficiently; is it possible I have erased something pertaining to the keyboard. How would I check/verify that?

If it's not working with either type, then there is a Windows issue. Try booting into Safe Mode and see if it works. You could also try using System Restore and going back to a date before the trouble began. Aside from that, I'm not sure of a fix aside from a fresh install of Windows.
