My dell inspiron 700m lcd screen cracked so I decided to replace it. When the screen came I replaced it and used the lcd screen cable from the old screen to connect it to the MOBO. When I powered up the computer the lcd cable connecting to the MOBO got real hot and I smelled that aweful electrical smell. Immediatly I shut it down. I hooked up an external monitor to make sure the MOBO wasn't fried and everything was good. I decided to try hooking back up the old screen and the same thing happend. Irritated, I checked to make sure the display on the external monitor was ok and it was. Now I'm using the computer with the new lcd screen in place with it connected to the lcd inverter board with that fancy lcd cable not hooked in and using an external monitor. The back light on the new lcd screen works but I'm thinking that there is something fishy with that fancy lcd cable which hooks into the MOBO (I hope). Anyone have any ideas? Has this happened to anyone else?
