Dell Inspiron 6400 Backlight flicker?

3324 Views 3 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  ZeroGravityX
So, I looked on youtube first before making my own video...

Basically, whats happening to this guy is what is happening to me... although mine doesnt seem to strobe light as often as his does, its almost like it happens when my system is under a bit of load?

YouTube - TFT backlight flickering

It started out of no where, and seems to happen mostly when I am actually doing something, like if I click to load a new page on a website it may occur... But if my system is just sitting there it will occasionally happen as well...

Any help at all would be greatly appreciated... and feel free to ask any questions about the system...

It is a few years old, but I have treated it well, and other than this problem it is in great condition... I have ordered a new replacement, but I wouldnt mind fixing this one to give to my daughter...

Thanks guys and/or gals!

Hello ZeroGravityX and welcome to TSF,

The flickering is usually a sign of a failing CCFL backlamp. Rarely, though, it is caused by a loose connection between the lamp and the inverter.

Try dimming or brightening the screen. Does the flickering get worse or subside?
Hi ZeroGravityX,

When it comes time to repair, I recommend replacing the inverter first and see if that solves the problem.

Sorry about taking so long to reply, Ive been quite busy lately. :)

I did take apart the monitor, and reseated all the cables... No change...

When I dim the screen, i didnt notice it at all... even if I just dim it slightly...

The oddest thing to me is that when it happens, it seems like my laptop locks up till the flicker stops... its only a second or 2, but my mouse freezes in place, if i am typing, it pauses for a moment, and then just catches up..

It seems to happen more often when I am plugged into power as well, rather than when I run on the battery...
