Dell Inspiron 6000 OS Upgrade Question

3897 Views 3 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  Jaipalig
I want to upgrade my Dell Inspiron 6000 OS from XP Pro To Win 7 home Premium. I heard you can do it but there's drivers issues. Dell says the 6000 is not able to run Win 7. Well I've already bought the Win 7 OS. Can 7 be installed on the inspiron 6000 and run well?
I've already upgrade the ram to 2 gigs but the drivers problem has me worried.

If dell does not have drivers, then I would strongly urge you not to try to upgrade. You will have problems.

check the following tests.

Windows 7 Readiness Test
Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor - Download - Microsoft Windows
Do you have the ATI x300 video or Intel GMA video?
It's do-able but the early Intel GMA Video does not support Aero or other Vista/Win7 advanced graphics. The chip set drivers are not an issue but the wireless may be depending on which one you have.

2 gig is plenty of ram for normal use.

I personally would stay with XP on this unit.
Yeah its the early intel GMA Video, Soooo I guess I'll just leave well enough alone. Thanks for the help, guys
