Dell Inspiron 6000 multi-image following LCD replacement

Hi folks,
This is my first post so I hope I'm in the correct area.
I have a Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop with a fulty LCD (backlight not working). The LCD part # is B154EW01.

I tried replacing the invertor (the cheaper of the two options between LCD and invertor) to no avail so now I've bought an LCD - part # LP154WX4.

The problem is that everything (Bios, POST, Win logo, desktop etc.) is displayed 4 times (one in each corner of the screen). These are not ghost images - I can clearly see the mouse move and menus etc. open in all four minature windows.

I'm guessing the part is incompatible. I'm ruling out cabling or motherboard as the original LCD, however dim, displays the full screen. With an external monitor I can see everything full-screen also.

When I tried the new LCD in another laptop (in place of a B154EW02 LCD) it worked perfectly, and that B154EW02 LCD failed to display anything but lines in the Inspiron 6000.

This would lead me to conclude that the new LCD is working, compatible (to some degree at least), the cabling is sound as is the motherboard and driver.

I've flashed the Bios and updated the display driver.

Any thoughts? Is it just as I've said...that the new LCD while compatible is simply not correct for the laptop?

Hi keithmc,

Try re-installing and re-seating the new LCD again on the Dell Inspiron 6000. Make sure all there are no loose connections. Hopefully it will work for you this time.
Thanks DB Cooper, but alas I've had the LCD and associated cables in and out numerous times at this stage. Thanks for the suggestion, though.
