Dell Inspiron 5150 will not start [Moved from XP]

3706 Views 7 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  Donbon
Hi,
I was working on my Dell laptop Inspiron 5150 when if froze. I could not get it to do anything. I had to use the power button to restart the system and all I have now is a blank screen with a blinking cursor in the top left. I am running XP with 750 mem. When I restart the system I get a power on light, a flash of light for the hard drive, that its.
Thanks,
Don:upset:

Re: Will not start

Hi Donbon !

This looks like some hardware problem to me, I'll move you to the laptop support section. Can you see the POST informations at all (the BIOS splash screen or some white text on a black backround) ?

(btw, you didn't answer back in your older thread about your Dell 8100, did you manage to solve the problem ?)
hi, does your Dell have diagnostics on F12? Power on and immediately start pressing the F12 key up and down. If so run the diagnostics. It would help to know if you had installed any new hardware, or had anything happened in the day or so before the freeze?
Hi,
There is nothing, no mouse, keyboard, just the blinking cursor in the top left.
Don
The XP problem is fixed.
oh that is good... it would be great if can please share the experience with us.
@ TriggerFinger : I think he's replying to my question about his older thread.

@ Donbon : it's true that it would be great if you could tell us how you fixed it. Reply in that other thread for everything that's related to the 8100. Keep this thread for the 5150.

Abour your laptop, if it doesn't POST then it has to be some hardware problem. Don't know much about troubleshooting laptops' hardware so I'll leave it to the hardware techs, but you may have to bring it back to the shop.
They tell me the motherboard is toast. Does anyone have a used one for 50.00 so I can use this system as a spare?
Thanks,
Don
