lets say I didn't want my recovery partition and need the extra space, since I have disc's available if I need to recovery, how would I go about deleting the recovery partition and extending my primary partition into the space, I once manage to delete my recovery partition but couldn't do anything beyond that and was left with unusable space, though it was so long ago I forgot what I did.

You can use any kind of Partition Editor to do this.

GParted is a well-known favorite.
http://gparted.sourceforge.net/

After you delete the recovery partition, you just need to extend your primary partition so it covers the unallocated space.
