Hello,

please be gentle with me, be patient with me and please use small words  please excuse the lack of technical terms too :sigh:

i am probably the least technical person ever and i have spent the last 7hours trying to delete an icon from my desktop :embarased

it is a 'zwinkysetup' icon, i think i got it from somewhere like facebook, i wasnt paying attention and somehow downloaded it by mistake.
i have looked in add/remove and the program isnt there.
when i delete the icon (or try to) i am getting a message that says i need administrator access, i continue and then i get an error sayin i need permission and to try again, no matter how many times i try it just keepos saying i need permission
i have used spybot and spyware terminator, i have tried moveonboot and i have even tried 'claiming ownership' all to no avail
i am the only user on this laptop and i am administrator so what am i doing wrong?
really hope this makes sense to someone, i'd apprciate any adivce

thanks in advance

A.

For some reason, I've found that some files cannot be deleted unless you change permissions to let everyone and everything edit them... You can right click on the icon, choose the Security tab. Then click the "edit" button. Then just click each user in the top list and check the "full control" box for each of them. (It goes Everyone, then System, then username, and then Administrators - at least in my list) Then try deleting the file.

Hope that helps.

Thanks but thats not working.
whn i right click the icon i get lots of things but no security, i did find security tab under properties, then found security, but it won't let me do anything, i just keep getting access denied
the icon isnt even what i would call a proper icon, it looks like a page with top right corner folded over and it has a'window' with tiny icons on it (sorry i really am not good at d describing it) its acutally called - ZwinkySetup2.3.50.10.ZJfox000.exe idunno if this makes any difference

Have you tried booting into safe mode by pressing "F8" while the computer is booting?
If you right click on the icon select properties note the target field this will give you the location of the file on your hard drive, Then boot into "safe mode" go to that location and try deleting it.
