is Kazaa installed? I had the same problem with my machine and it was because Kazaa messed up winsock

To resolve my problem I had to go a bit deeper than that. I had to run through the registry and change some values in winsock.

When you try to view web pages do you get "action cancelled" or "this page cannot be displayed"?

In any case, I'll see if I can find the document that has directions on how to fix winsock. It used to be on a web site but the site was dead so I picked it out of a google chache. I think it's saved somewhere on my HD though so I'll look for it today.

Ok, I found it. It's a MS Kb article that they took down for some reason. Anyway, I have it uploaded here

It may or may not work with XP; I have 98 so I couldn't tell you
