I have a Maxtor HD Diamond Max that is labeled as 200gb. The Maxtor Software formats it at 203gb.. But when I run DBAN, it says it is only wiping 189gb... What happened to the other 11gb? I want to be sure to wipe the entire driv, and not leave 11gb unwiped.. Please advise!! Thanks!!

This is to do with how a gigabyte is defined. Manufacturers define a GB in decimal as 1,000,000,000 bytes. But to most software, including Windows and most likely DBAN also, a gigabyte is defined using JEDEC memory standards which defines a gigabyte as 1,073,741,824 bytes (or 2^^30 bytes)
