Damaged PNV USB Drive

I have a 12G PNV Attache USB Drive. It has a "fold out" connector that seems to have come lose and I am unable to get it register on my desktop (Mac) or anyother ( I tried a PC too). The "male" part seems to be lose. I took it to Disk Doctor - they quoted me $1250.00 to get the data off! I can hardley afford that! I am 99% sure the data is intact - just the connection is bad! Any way to get that fixed? By the way PNV said - no luck - send it back and we will destroy it and send you a new one (no data recovery OR FIXING their own product).
Any ideas? Can I take it apart?
