I have a Gateway Vista x32 laptop and am unable to turn on my Windows Defender. Each attempt leads to the error message 0x800106ba which tells me to go to Help and support to get information on manually uploading the WD. Each attempt to manually leads me right back to the above error message and I have searched the net fruitlessly for an answer to this problem.

All I have found are dozens of sites offering free scans which then tell me I have somewhere between 257 and 1864 errors on my computer and can find the answer to this and all of life's other problems simply by buying their repair program costing anywhere between $19.95 and $254.00 depending on which site you visit.
