I have recently been having a pop up red shield in my start up tray that keeps saying my computer is infected. When I right click the red shield with the white X in it...it says would you like to update your security software and download Registry Cleaner. I tried to do a search from my PC but it will block any websites that would let me read about how to get rid of it. So I had to use my laptop to get in and post. I have Win XP Pro. I have tried spybot, ad aware, and checked for viruses with Symantec but to no avail. everytime it does find a spyware after I clean it and reboot it comes right back. Please help me anyway you can. Here is my hi jack this log.

Hello, and welcome.

I'll be glad to help you clear up this issue, but first I need a bit more information.

First:

Before you do anything else, create a folder for HijackThis and put it in a permanent folder (like C:\HJT) instead of the Temp folder. You appear to be running it from the Zip file. This is required because HijackThis will create backups and we don't want them to be deleted.

Create an uninstall list:

  • Open HiJackThis
  • Click on the button " Open the Misc Tools section"
  • Click on the Box that says "Open Uninstall Manager"
  • Click on the button "Save list"
  • Copy and past the List from the notepad file into your post

Please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri) to your Desktop.

Double-click smitfraudfix.exe to start the tool.
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"
and a text file will appear which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other option until you are directed to do so!
