My Novita B17CL monitor occasionally shrinks the picture to a thin shaking vertical band in the middle of the screen for about half a second, then goes back to normal. While it shows the vertical band it also makes cracking noises. It happened with three different graphic cards.
I guess the horizontal deflection is sometimes not working properly. I can live with that since it only happens a few times per week, but I wonder if the frequency is going to increase or if the monitor is going to break down completely soon.

It sounds like something that you could adjust via settings. But if I'm not mistaken some of those settings can only be adjusted from the inside of the monitor.

BUT DON'T TAKE IT APART! The capacitors inside a monitor can house lethal voltages even after it has been turned off.

The best thing to do is regardless of whether it is dying or a settings issue is to either take it to a licensed repair shop, or simply toss it and get a nice LCD.
