(not sure where to post this, if this is the wrong place, pls move it)

Right:

Now here is a head scratcher. There I was, clearing out my cable box, when I unearthed my old Creative Zen. Hey, I thought, wonder if it still works. So I charge it up, all good.

Sounds pretty good too, why did I stop using it anyway (oh yes, I know...NEW gadgets)

Anyhow. So, naturally, since it is discontinued for years and years, no software works (not compatible- I tried)
My pc recognizes it as a storage device, but dragging music onto the storage space doesn't play the sound files.

Any ideas how I could change the music on it or am I stuck for ever with Kate Bush, Shponge and Vivaldi?? :4-scratch

Maybe if I get real player? Hm, scratches her chinny chin chin...

What do you think oh revered tech ladies and gentlemen??

Naaahhhh, no luck. Tried all sorts, from running it in this mode and that, nothing will install. error: you have no supported products on your pc- abort.

Not that it matters, it's an end of service/life product, I will give it a fresh go from time to time I think. Google has nothing to say to this either, only a few ppl in the same boat.

Thanks for your suggestion. :thumb:

You would get this error if the device was not plugged in or recognized by the computer. Make sure it is recognized in the Device Manager without any yellow marks.

When you plug in your device, with the device turned on, it should be recognized as New Hardware, and search for a driver. If it doesn't find a driver, it will show up as a device with a Yellow Flag in the Device Manager. If you run the software program it will look for the device with the yellow flag and install the driver.
If the device is not recognized in the Device Manager with a yellow flag or under Universal Serial Bus controllers as an Unknown Device, then when you run the software, it will say you have no supported products on your pc

Here's how I got it to work with Win 8.1 SL Win 64x:

I went to

Creative Worldwide Support

and selected Entertainment Devices/MP3 players, then Zen Series, then Zen 20 GB. I selected the following drivers for Win XP:

JB3MV2_PCWDRV_US_1_30_03.EXE (the driver)

CMS5_PCAPP_LB_5_10_38.EXE (the organizer, etc.)

CMS5_NJB2_PCAPP_LB_5_00_22.EXE (plugin for organizer, etc.)

I used the ff. compatibility settings for all three:

Win XP Service Pack 3
Run program as administrator

I connected the player to the PC and then ran each setup program in the order given above. I booted the PC after each installation.

After the third installation and boot up, the sync manager appeared. I disconnected and connected the device from the PC and the sync manager detected it.

Finally, I ran Creative MediaSource 5 with no compatibility settings, and the Creative Zen device and content showed up in the program.
