Try running your security programs in safe-mode.
Have you installed any new hardware, software, or driver updates just prior to this issue starting?
Go to Start>Run and type msconfig>Enter ... and disable some of the more recent programs in the start-up folder - see if that helps ... reintroduce one program at a time if it does make a difference.
Anything relevant in Event viewer? (right click My Computer>manage)
How about Device manager? (Right click My Computer>Properties>Hardware) ... ?
