After my laptop boots, there is a lengthy wait time just for loading a few applications. (antivirus, firewall, internet)
In task manager, the applications do not show the user name
When it settles down for a second or two, anything I attempt to open results in immediate freezing
I don't have enough time to open any virus detection, nor to generate logs of the situation before it completely freezes
I used the avast bootup scan, but it only picked up a few false positives

Any advice?

Hello xoposo and welcome to TSF,

Do the same problems occur in Safe Mode?

1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Use the up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode and press Enter.
5) Login with your usual account.
