yes hello to all i am currently working on my dads computer and i was wanting to get him the best cpu for his mobo is computer is an hp s5113w and according to the hp website he can use a 95watt tdp cpu here is the info i have found on his pc for cpu upgrade
TDP: 95W
Motherboard supports the following processor upgrades
Only socket AM2+ processors are supported with this motherboard.

    • AMD Phenom II Quad-Core
    • AMD Phenom II Triple-Core
    • AMD Phenom Quad-Core (A) 9xxx series (AM2+)
    • AMD Phenom Triple-Core (T) 8xxx series (AM2+)
    • AMD Athlon X4
    • AMD Athlon X3
    • AMD Athlon X2 (B) (AM2+)

HP Pavilion Slimline s5113w Desktop PC Product Specifications | HP® Customer Support
so i guess i am wanting to know which one of these cpus is the best obviously i know the quad core is the best but would the phenom quad core 9xxx series be the best or would the phenom II quad core is what i am looking for.
THANKS IN ADVANCE
RUBEN
P.S. is the 95 watt tdp more because of the psu or because of the actual mobo limitations. also if u guys could point me in the direction of a psu upgrade as well that would be stellar.

THANKS IN ADVANCE

AM3 processors will physically mount to an AM2+ socket. The reverse is not true.

In this instance, you are limited to procs with TDP of 95 watts or less. Best choice for you is probably the Phenom II X4 840 (3200MHz quad, HDX840WFK42GM)

now is this because of the PSU or because of the actual limitations of the mobo also can you point me in the direction of a PSU upgrade. also which would be the next best class of cpus after the phenom II quad core, would it be the phenom quad core 9XXX series because these are more in my price range all he uses the pc for is for business stuff like spreadsheet stuff. im just tired of whenever i go to his house to work on stuff for him the pc constantly is non responsive because the cpu is at a constant 100% of usage.

The limitation is based on what the motherboard supports, it doesn't have anything to do with the power supply (unless they power supply was severely undersized which is not typical).

The CPU hitting 100% sounds more like a software issues and not so much a hardware limitation. I'd start by finding out what is causing the high CPU usage.

Slow processing in an application would be a reason to upgrade the CPU.

If the motherboard can support it, the Phenom II would be the newest version of the Phenom processors.

okay well i upgraded my dads cpu to the AMD Phenom X4 9750 socket AM2+ CPU HD9750WCJ4BGH 2.4 GHz quad core 95W which is the best phenom x4 95 watt cpu. well the installation went really smooth. it was a cinch really the longest thing that took about 20 min or so was cleaning out the case man was it super dirty/dusty. but the whole thing took me about 45 min. Then i popped the cpu in put everything back together and fired it up. everything is now running super smooth no more 100% cpu usage on anything except when i stressed tested it and it completed 20 passes on the intel burn in test and the hottest it ever got was 65 celcius. man is my dad super content now no more "freezing up" as he says. thank you to all who helped with this little project.
THANK YOU

Well done.

FYI: Both the freezing and high cpu utilization may well have been related to the excessive dust buildup. i.e. proc overheating and throttling itself.

idk maybe but i find now in days whats the whole point of selling pc's with single core cpu's. I mean really come on, i didnt even need to do a bios update on this pc and it would have even taken a phenom II X4 cpu which means that all of those cpu's were out when they made this computer. I mean really come on HP get it together.
Anyways thanks again!!!

The PC market was very competitive when that computer was sold and manufacturers must do what is necessary to keep costs down. Maybe AMD was overstocked with single core CPUs and HP got a good deal.
