CPU Upgrade Choices?

Hi all.

First off this is my first post, I don't know if this would be the correct place to post this.

So please let me know if I'm posting at the wrong location and I'll keep it noted.

Currently I have a Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe board, current CPU is AMD Athlon64 3200+

I was thinking for a quick upgrade for speed I should upgrade to the
AMD FX-60 or the FX-58 chip.

Should I even bother for this upgrade? Chip would cost around $250CDN, I'm guessing.

Any advice would be great.

Once again sorry if I'm posting on the wrong place.

Or would I be better off looking for a new Board later down the road, when the new sockets come out?

So would it be worth it for a small upgrade going for the FX-60 chip?
Or should I just hold back and save some money and wait for the new sockets to be released?

Thank you for the reply btw.
There already are new sockets...........
Socket 939 motherboards run AMD's Athlon 64 and Sempron desktop processors, both of which have been discontinued.
AMD has migrated all of its desktop processors to the Socket AM2 and Socket AM2+ platforms.
AMD's Socket AM3 processors and the motherboards that run them are expected to be made available at the end of 2008.
Sorry probably wasn't wording myself correctly.

I know that Socket 939 is of the old, but I was just wondering if it would be even worth it to upgrade to a FX chip, for the meantime.
Or
Just wait it out, and save some money for the AM3's to come out at the end of the year.
Hi,
I'd save and wait for the AM3.................great feeling having the very latest hardware.
haha
must agree with you on that part!
I guess I'll save my money for the upgrades later on.

It's just playing AoC (Age of Conan) my Frame Rates are soooooooooo low. Can't stand it.

Thought upgrading to the FX might be just a quick fix for now.
Video Card i'm on a 8800GT Right now, so I kind of ruled out that it's the Video Card causing the lose of Frame Rate.

3GB Ram.

Video Card is decent, just the CPU is slow-poke... 3200+....GRRRR
Sounds like youve got a pretty good system there apart from your stone age CPU, You CPU is definatly bottlenecking it!!

because 939 CPU's are discontinued there cheap!
In my personal opinion i would definatly upgrade the CPU so that 8800 can stretch its legs!!

And then upgrade the CPU and motherboard in the future! However if your a gamer i would upgrade to intel not AMD! I would be a little sceptical of the new AM3!

An FX-60 is an excellant chip (i used to own one) and will seriously increase your FPS. But even something cheaper like a 4200+ would make a BIG difference.

You 3200+ is a heap of S!%t

Age of conan- any good? i was thinking of getting it!
Age of Conan would look awesome if I could get a stable FPS at around 30. I'm hitting 15's - 20's.
Really ANNOYING!

I was browsing around for the chips and the FX-60 was only costing me around 250...

So I was thinking $250 would almost be the same price in waiting on something newer from Intel.
