Hello world *wince*

I'm having problems setting up a computer and getting it to boot without "CPU changed or unworkable" message pop up every time. I'd like to install XP on it.

Board: Abit VHS II
CPU: pentium III 300

This computer was decommissioned/inactive for the last 3 years. It was working fine at the time it was put away with only the hard drive that used to house a windows (maybe 98) OS being removed.

I have already gone into soft menu BIOS and set the clock, tried tweaking a few settings (perhaps not the right ones?), restored both fail safe and optimised defaults. I've tried changing the board battery, clearing CMOS using jumper pins. This was at first done without a hard drive, then with a new unformatted 80GB one, then with one with win98 pre-installed on it, but made no difference.

Can you suggest anything? Help would be greatly appreciated. Is more info needed?

Thanks heaps.
