Hello Everyone. I am currently building my own computer for the first time and I am having some issues with CPU temperature.

After installing all of the components, I enter my system BIOS and review the CPU temperature. The temperature initially reads 45-50 celsius and climbs to the mid-80s in a matter of a minutes.

I have reseated the heat sink and reapplied thermal paste a few times thinking that is the issue. I may not be doing this properly, but I am not sure and this may not even be the issue. If anyone could offer any advice, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

System specs-
mobo: EVGA nforce 780i
CPU: intel c2q Q67002.66 GHz
Heat sink: ThermalTake Silent 775D
Thermal Grease: Masscool Thermal Gel

Did you clean off the old thermal paste completely before you put new on? (you must)

Did you put them together and leave them together instead of looking to see if it was spread evenly? (one can't take the heatsink/cpu apart after pasting to look)

Another issue, It might be a wise idea to pick up some Artic Silver thermal paste, that is as good as it gets.

Always remember, too much paste is as bad or worse than not enough paste.

And last, but not least...here are instructions...follow them or you will have problems:

Applying Artic Silver Thermal Paste
