I have a computer I built about 6 years ago that I have been having some issues with. The CPU temp has been bouncing from 40C to to over 50C just running firefox (tested with speedfan). I am not sure if this is reason for concern, but I don't recall it ever doing this. Ive also been getting some really random issues with my usb. My external drives sometimes not being recognized out of the blue and or getting delayed write failures.

Any input?

It froze up completely on a reboot. It wouldn't even load the program icons on the bottom right. I shut it down and restarted. Now its stuck on Verifying DMI Pool Data... Update Success

In the BIOS after being off for 2 hours:
CPU Temp: 34
System Fan Speed: 1654 RPM
+3.3V: 3.24V
Dram Voltage: 2.62V
CPU Fan Speed: 2445 RPM
CPU Vcore: 1.37V
+5(V): 4.99V

What are the specs of your pc?
CPU
Motherboard
Ram
Video card
PSU (Brand, make, and wattage)

This sound more like a failing componet to me, when the pc messes up again try to get in to bios to get a temp reading before it cools down. Have you cleaned out the dust from inside the pc with a can of air? If not then start with that first since it is the simplest thing to try right now.

I have cleaned the dust.

Motherboard: Biostar P4M800-M4
Intel Celeron D 335 Processor 2.80GHz
Antec Smartpower 2.0 400w
ATI Radeon 9550 Diamond Stealth 256mb
Creative Sound Blaster
1 512MB Ultra PC3200 DDr 400MHz

I don't see a +12 voltage in the bios.

I removed the sound card and the video card and it was still stuck at Verifying DMI Pool Data... Update Success

Then I removed the secondary hard drive that I use as a storage drive, and it passed and let me log in. That seems logical that maybe the drive order was messed up. However I have had the same drive configuration for at least a year. Also once logged in nothing loads, and when I try to get near the start bar it reverts from the arrow to the hourglass not letting me do anything. I had to use the task manager to shut down.

I booted up into safemode and ran some checks which came up clean. So I did a system restore. Which worked and its back to the starting point. Its running very sluggishly.

I have been watching SpeedFan along side task manager and the CPU Usage keeps dropping down to 0%.

Any ideas?

Can anyone help here?

The computer is extremely sluggish and the cpu usage keeps dropping and sticking at 0%.

Is there a hardware or OS problem that would cause this?
