:upset: I have recently took out my chip and heatsink (it's a PIV 2.4). The chip and heatsink came separately when I bought the machine. However when I took off the heatsink the chip was stuck to the bottom of it. Fortunately I never broke or bent any pins. How do I remove the chip from the heatsink so I can put the chip into my new MOBO?

i had the same problem inversely, my cpu stuck in the motherboard, it took me forever to get it out, eventually i had to slide a very thin knife under it and pry it out. glad i was RMAing it, i didnt cause any damage but i think it is messed up anyways.

i would just heat it up by running it, and then use a twisting motion...

but you wouldnt be able to get it back in a lockdown if the heatsink is in the way of the lock bar....

so, i would prolly freeze it for at least a half hour. then i would hit the heatsink against a stone of some sort, and hopefully the harmonics would crack them apart. (im saying to hold the heat sink, and rap it against something without hitting the processor at the same time)if the doesnt work, then while it was still frozen, i would simply use a popsicle stick, carved into a flat wedge, and tap it in with a hammer untill it came loose...

the popsicle stick has worked when nothing else would

YIKES! Don't be hammering on the processor/HS combination! The processor is ceramic, and it's pretty brittle.

If I were trying to get this processor off, I think I'd try hitting the heatsink with cooling spray and then a heat gun. The fairly rapid cooling/heating cycle may break it loose. Don't put cooling or heat directly on the processor, but just the top of the HS.
