thanks all of you
I got saved from dealers here who just blindly said for more speed go to quad.

one more doubt I had - for future.
quad core will make me use different motherboard. so for upgradation tomorrow of processor will going for quad core will be better.

just I wanted to be sure from all angles.

By the time all the software has the ability to actually fully use all 4 cores you'll be ready to rebuild and components will have changed again a workstation platform will outlive it's useful life in 36-48 months a motherboard out now probably will not support a new cpu 3 years from now. At least I think that's what your asking.

The Q6600 Core2Quad and the E8500 Core2Duo use the same slot.
