I have two or three external drives, containing videos and images ( all family stuff), plus the ones on my hard disk.
What I would like to do is copy them all to a single external drive, (and hope that I don't lose the original dates), then finally, once that is done, to make a couple of duplicates for family distribution.
Can a member advise the best way to do this, please?

Open two Windows Explorer windows and simply drag and drop (copy) the files from one drive to the other. (The original file's creation dates will remain unchanged and be copied over along with the files).

To add to what the Dr is saying, open Windows (File) Explorer minimize it, and go to the lower right hand corner, when you pointer turns to a double sided arrow, resize the window so it takes up half the screen. Right click the Windows Explorer in the taskbar and open another Windows Explorer window, resize so you can see both windows. One from the Drive you want to copy, the Source and one where you want to copy it to, the Destination. Select the files you want to copy and drag them to the other drive, or Copy and Paste. If you want, you can create separate folders for each drive you are copying on the Destination drive in case some of the pictures have the same name so they won't overwrite each other.
