convert to vtec?

hey guys i have a d15a3 engine in my 1987 honda crx. can i buy the parts off a vtec d series engine and match them onto the block on my d15? the problem im having is that my transmission is outdated and wont fit on the newer d series engines. the bolt alignment is off. so could i use the parts from say a jdm d15 vtec series like the camshafts and the ecu and stuff and match them on?
