ok, I don't want to sound like an idiot or anything but I can't seems to figure out exactly what the difference is between a SATA or RAID, a promise controller or a fastrack. It's all a little confusing to me.
I have the p4c800 deluxe w/ a WD 120GB hd( it says ultra ata whatever that is) I'm using the IDE cable it came with to connect it to the mobo. I'm having a bios problem but I want to make sure it's all hooked up right so I can eliminate that issue. my mobo came with another cable, a SATA or Raid or something but I can't use it because my HDD only has an IDE slot.
is there anywhere I can read up on what all this is in laimens terms. I just want to know exactly what all this is before I go and fry a $4000 system, lol.
.............any suggestions would help immensly!

what the H....?

i am not sure how someone could spend 4000$ on a system.

please let us know what it is made from....

i really have to see how you could possibly spend 4000 on a system when i went to the most exspensive custom site and picked out something so scary i wouldnt want it, and it still wasnt 4000$

even with a backup power source and 4 200 gig drives....

and a 21 inch CRT monitor, and a 17 inch LCD
and the most ram and speed available today, and a custom painted case, optical mouse, and two dvd-rw drives.

crap, that even included two ms sidewinder joysticks, and a 200 watt thx surround speaker system.
try as i may, i cant get it to cost that much, even with the most exspensive video card they had, and with the best cooler for that card.

i really have to see this....

oh

and my friend's machine is using raid, and it plugs in through the normal cable sockets on the hard disks. it uses a green raid cable, and connects to the raid socket on the mainboard.

his has three ide sockets, and two of them are raid. the four raid drives are set up as 1 large disk, with two on each raid cable.

this info should be included in the owners manual for any motherbaord with raid. especially a 4000$ PC.

so as it is commonly said here, R.T.F.M (Read The F***ing Manual)

Man I wish I had $4000 to spend on a computer...my new one is made up of a motherboard that's fast becoming old news and a processor with a smashed core. I don't even have a case yet.

ok, ok people, this thread went the wrong way. I was being facetious when I said $4000, what I meant was for the money new computer equip. costs I want to be sure of myself before I go and screw something up.
...............although there is that $2000 gateway plasma screen...................

I think most of us knew you were exaggerating :)

aww man a 1000 watt marshall stack...driving an 8x12'' cabinet...if one exists

but to bring things back on topic, there is a semi-informative article about RAID here.

HAHA

what i have noticed, is that the manufacturers of the computers dont consider the monitor to even be part of the system.

here i read in todays ads:

blah blah blah system 399 (monitor not included)
blah blah blah system 699 (monitor not included)

etc. etc.

so, i dont consider a 2000$ monitor to be considered part of the system...

and why would it possibly cost 4000 to repair the machine...

and who in the world is asking 2k for a monitor?
id really like to know that.

but, back to what the actual subject is...
did you ever find the mainboard's manual?
or do you need to be pointed in a direction for more explaination about how to set up raid?

haha

alright, now i see that in fact gateway is in the business of molesting people's wallets.

i went to the site, and omfg, thats not even comparitive to the monitors they sell.....

but after all, we are talking about an absolutely huge 46 inches arent we?

i guess if thats the case, then i suppose it's worth 2k, lol

but i will also add this:
i can find any monitor that they offered for at least 40% less than they want.

so, as i say it, they have molested people bigtime on this one.
