Hello;

Thanks to TriggerFinger's assistance, replacing the keyboard was a very simple operation.

After having reformatted the HD as planned, I did a "clean" reinstallation of Windows XP Media edition (from an OEM disk I purchased from HP) and installed all the drivers from the driver/software recovery disk, also provided from HP.

The first hurdles I've encountered are that the Lightscribe DVD/RW shows up as a DVD RAM drive on the system, where before the system crashed it was listed as a DVD/CD-RW. When I check under properties, it shows the drive correctly as a CD-RW. I also tried changing the name of the drive under properties but was unable to do so. While I haven't tried using it yet, I'm concerned this is not how it is supposed to be and will cause problems.

My second problem is that the built in wireless receiver (all HP supplied drivers installed and firewall settings adjusted) network connection shows our home network, allows for me to enter the security pass phrase, attempts to connect to out network but never does make a connection and this is right next to the Linksys router. My Dell Inspiron connects just fine. I can connect to the network using the CAT 5 connection just not the wireless.

I imagine both have simple fixes (hopefully) and I appreciate any assistance in getting her laptop up and running as soon as possible as my next task is to replace failing cooling fans in my Inspiron.

Again, thanks for the attention and help.

Regarding the wireless connection problem, if this is of any more help in figuring out what is the problem. Even though I have the TCP/IP settings on automatic, it does not seem to be able to "lock-on" to my network IP and DNS settings. The device manager shows the Broadcom device to be in proper working order. Also, as i mention, my Dell Inspiron connects to the network just fine.

Hi,

I had the same problem with my Linksys router. what solved it is i used a USB flash drive to save settings in Linksys configurator and plug it in the laptop. I cannot recall exactly the steps but I am sure if you check the guided/wizard in Linksys configuration when you add a computer. do check Users Guide of Linksys.

Also try if you can connect to other networks (may be from a free hotspot place).
